Map making
This afternoon the children created their own treasure maps. Then they scrunched, ripped and stained them to give them a look of being old. The look fantastic!

Finding our loot
The class quickly worked out that the map was a map of the school. We also found some directions for how to get to the treasure. Sneaking carefully, we managed to follow the directions and find our lost chests. That will teach those nasty pirates!
A treasure map
Whilst searching for the treasure the class were able to find a treasure map. Perhaps it will lead us to the lost treasure?
We are going to check and see if we can work out where the map leads us.

A letter from Captain Smellybeard
We arrived at school today to find our two toy chests missing. We then found a letter from some pirates boasting that they had pinched our 'treasure'. The children are now searching everywhere to see if we can find the map that reveals where thy have buried our loot!

Independent writing
It's lovely to see the children all writing independently in their jotters during the register. Today they were writing about what they got up to at the weekend.

Pirate invasion!
Help! A motley crew of nasty pirates has sailed into the courtyard and are causing mayhem! They are trying to steal treasure and make people walk the plank. Help!
More pirate super sentences.
The class started off with the sentence 'The pirate was mean.' and were asked to improve it. Listen below to just one of the amazing sentences created.

Cutlas creations
The classroom was turned into a weapons factory today as the children made pirate swords called cutlasses. They used a stencil to draw around, then they cut out the cardboard and joined them together using glue or Sellotape.

Pirate Ships
We have finished our pirate ships today. We replaced our paper masts

A letter from the SS Great Britain
We were very excited to get a response from the SS Great Britain Museum after sending our letters a while ago. They had completed our questionnaire as we had asked them and included a postcard of the SS Great Britain. If you head over to the SS Great Britain this weekend you might see something a bit strange. What is different about it?
Our Pentecost Assembly
This morning we performed our Pentecost assembly. We sang the song which we had written ourselves. It was great that the disciple actors could use their own languages to shout the Good News.

Pirate stories
Last week we planned a pirate story. Today we used those plans to help us with our Pirate Big Write. All the stories were amazing. In fact, some could be easily be made into blockbuster films! They were so good that Mr Condon asked some children to read them out before lunch. Well done me hearties!

Arrrgghh!!! Pirate ship designs
We have been designing our own pirate ships, which we are going to build tomorrow. The children have had to think of the materials they will need to build their vessels.

Making a booklet
In ICT we are making a booklet about Brunel. Some of us are importing pictures and writing sentences. Great stuff!
Making super sentences
During our literacy warm up we made a human sentence saying 'The ship sailed.' The children quickly came up with improvements to the sentence until we had 'Slowly the humongous, angry pirate ship sailed slowly up and down and across the sea because the sea was wavy!'

Evaluating our boats
After building our boats we tested that they could float for over a minute whilst holding a passenger (a plastic dinosaur). Then we thought about what had gone well and what we would like to change if we made it again.
Boat designs
The classroom has been turned into a ship builders yard this afternoon as the children are creating boats using their own designs.
Some designs have needed adjustments because the boats didn't floated first time.

Looking at artefacts
Today we have been looking at victorian artefacts and thinking about what they are and how they could be used. Can you work out what this was used for and who would have used it?

Letter writing
For our Big Write this week we have written a letter asking for more information about Brunel. We had to try and include a question.

Using teamwork and communication, we have been following Brunel's footsteps and engineering bridges. Which design do you think is best?
